According to legend, Myrsine, a young maiden of Attica, after having beaten her friend in an athletic race, was killed by this friend, who could not accept defeat. The goddess Pallade transformed her body into a shrub called Myrsine, which is now known as “mirto” or myrtle.
The complex is situated in the immediate vicinity of a white sand cove. The beach is easily accessible on foot, via a small bridge and saltwater pond leading into the sea. This unique characteristic renders this place even more beautiful and makes the area home to many protected species of birds, like the pink flamingos and the herons, which stand and feed in the natural stretches of water formed by the sea just after the beach. At dusk, even the fish arrive at the small pond from the sea, putting on a show of incomparable beauty.
